Using images from Baldessariās archive of photographs taken of Hollywood sets, van der Broek creates new readings of these pictorial scenes by overlaying them with brightly colored passages and strokes. The result is a series of striking images that exist somewhere between photographic recognition and painterly abstraction. Published to accompany the two-part exhibition shown at the Greta Meert Gallery in Belgium and the Bonnefantenmuseum in the Netherlands in 2008-09.
